hjumən is one of the musical identities of Yurii Popov, an artist who has been making music for more than two decades. His work as hjumən focuses on what he calls “machine music for good human beings,” with techno as one of several musical paths he explores. For his debut on Seremonia by EABE, he turns toward the sounds and atmosphere of the Ukrainian Carpathians, bringing them into conversation with the darker side of the dancefloor.

CF Signals: Amuri Tekno – Kaiku [Seremonia by EABE]

Mountains_9_26 is a three-track release built around this meeting of traditions and machines. Across Prayer, Spirit, and Melody, hjumən draws from the harmonies, melodies, rhythms, and moods that have long attracted him to ethnic music, placing them alongside the repetitive force of techno. The result is a record that feels connected to a particular place while still speaking the language of the underground club.

Our premiere is hjumən — Prayer, the opening track of the release. There is a mysterious quality to it, with its atmosphere gradually unfolding around a steady rhythmic presence. The track carries something of the feeling hjumən describes himself: the meeting of the Ukrainian Carpathians with dark dancefloors, where something old and something mechanical can exist within the same space.

With Mountains_9_26, Seremonia by EABE introduces hjumən through a release that gives his musical interests plenty of room to breathe. Prayer is a fitting starting point: rooted in atmosphere, repetition, and a sense of place, while remaining firmly connected to the physical language of techno.
