Founded in 2024, Amp//Xist is a new creative project from programmer, engineer, and drummer Jamie Morrison. He creates techno music that combines acoustic drum recordings, Ableton software, and electronic devices. In 2026, the songs were finally released after a year of composition and recording in the “magic corner,” while also working on live sets to bring them to the dancefloor.
Amp//Xist is a new name with a much longer history behind it, the result of decades of dedication to dance music by Shadow Jerk (Ya Body), a two-track EP that moves between the warmest and most immersive territories of hypnotic techno and a rawer, more austere, and unsettling sound. Percussion occupies the center of both tracks, although each one takes it in a fairly different direction. The result is a first approach to a project whose influences are deep but difficult to pigeonhole.
Diffusion Network emerges from a rougher and more brittle place. It maintains the depth, but replaces part of the warmth of Resodrum with a sharper electronic edge, choppy percussion, and a sense of constant tension. It ventures into the most skeletal and experimental margins of techno, where repetition becomes slightly disorienting and small changes take on disproportionate weight, while strange details emerge at the edges of the track and disappear almost as quickly.
Although Amp//Xist is only just beginning to become known, the project is born from someone who has been involved in dance music, from different facets, since the 1980s. That trajectory is deliberately kept in the background, but it inevitably filters into the records, especially in the breaks and hand-played percussion, as well as in arrangements shaped by years of listening to and exploring house, techno, dub, and those in-between territories that are harder to define.
Shadow Jerk (Ya Body) offers a first glimpse of a project that seems to have already found its own space: a place situated between warmth and abrasion, between the familiar and that which feels slightly strange.
