We recently had the debut on our pages of Finnish producer Kitkatone, who teamed up with Empath to perform on Prodigal Son. This time, he appears on our pages solo with his new release. The Finnish label EABE, curated and executive produced by Empath – who recently presented us with his Cinta Furiosa – presents his work entitled When in Doubt, Comb It Over.
A mysterious release of which we know little. However, we have been able to listen to some of its tracks and we liked what we heard. One of them is Combover #5. Sweetness of sound that knows how to unfold in warm, subtle, and calm moments. It doesn’t get carried away by the frenetic pace of today’s sound or the contemporary city life of the world. It knows that its sounds are cleanest when the sound design is tenacious and patient. With some rhythmic sparkles and brights, visual correlates of Hayao Miyazaki, such as Spirited Away or Howl’s Moving Castle, are achieved.
In such a sound structure, full of simplicity and rich rhythms and atmospheres, the feelings evoked and achieved are of fullness, beauty, and idyll. All of which becomes stardust and ethereal oxygen that fills life with life.
