Club Furies

Based in Yogyakarta, Sanjonas has been active as a producer, DJ, graphic designer, and part of several independent creative communities since 2012. His music moves through experimental and heavy-bass territory, deconstructed club music, and techno, with a strong connection to the wider underground scene of Southeast Asia. Ngelmu Tirakat is his second full-length release, arriving through RAMPAK G, an Indonesian label and platform connected to a wider network of artists and collectives around contemporary club music.

Across its nine tracks, Ngelmu Tirakat brings together elements of Gqom, UK Funky, Marawis, Lion Dance, and club music, filtering these influences through Sanjonas’ own sonic language. The title refers to tirakat, a Javanese spiritual and cultural practice associated with self-discipline, restraint, endurance, and a search for inner clarity. For Sanjonas, the record grows from questions of identity, memory, resilience, and the reasons behind making music in the first place.

Our premiere is Ngelmu Tirakat 1, featuring MAHAMBORO on saxophone. The track introduces the release with a meeting between Sanjonas’ electronic world and a distinctly organic presence, giving the piece a sense of movement that feels both rooted and open. The saxophone adds another layer to the track without taking it away from its club-oriented character, creating a meeting point between different musical traditions and contemporary electronic production.

Ngelmu Tirakat feels deeply connected to the idea behind its title: music as a practice of endurance, reflection, and commitment. For Sanjonas, the album is described as a nadzar, a personal vow carried through uncertainty, crisis, love, and whatever may come next. Ngelmu Tirakat 1 offers an entry point into that journey, where regional sounds, personal history, and club culture meet somewhere between memory and the dancefloor.
