JØHRN brings his dark and hypnotic approach to techno back to Subsist Records with Miles of Silence Between Us, a 13-track album shaped around tension, intensity, and the feeling of moving forward through uncertain territory. The producer and DJ has built his sound around the deeper and more industrial sides of techno, with releases on labels including Illegal Alien, Faut Section, and Soma Records. Here, that identity finds a natural home on Subsist, a label with a long-running commitment to uncompromising electronic music.
Across the album, JØHRN explores a dense and shadowy atmosphere, moving through tracks such as The Charm of Wrong Lives, Nocturnal Whispers, Disrupted Code, and The True Value of Time. There is a strong sense of continuity between the pieces, as if the album were following one long nocturnal path rather than simply assembling a collection of separate tracks. Dark spaces, repetition, and constant movement give Miles of Silence Between Us its particular character.
Our premiere is Abandoned Prison, a track that sits comfortably within the album’s darker territory. Its atmosphere feels tense and enclosed, with a persistent rhythm pushing the track forward while layers of sound gradually deepen its mood. There is something almost claustrophobic about it, but also a sense of movement that keeps the track from becoming static — the feeling of being somewhere dark and continuing to walk.
With Miles of Silence Between Us, JØHRN offers a full-length statement built around the same intensity that shapes his DJ sets: dark, focused, and deeply immersive. Abandoned Prison captures that feeling particularly well, opening another door into an album where silence, pressure, and rhythm seem to exist in the same space.
